Barter	The first people didn't buy goods from other people with money. They used barter. Barter is the exchange of personal possessions of value for other goods that you want. This kind of exchange started at the beginning of humankind and is still used today. From 9,000-6,000 B.C., livestock was often used as a unit of exchange. Later, as agriculture developed, people used crops for barter. For example, I could ask another farmer to trade a pound of apples for a pound of bananas.
Shells	At about 1200 B.C. in China, cowry shells became the first medium of exchange, or money. The cowry has served as money throughout history even to the middle of this century.
First Metal Money	China, in 1,000 B.C., produced mock cowry shells at the end of the Stone Age. They can be thought of as the original development of metal currency. In addition, tools made of metal, like knives and spades, were also used in China as money. From these models, we developed today's round coins that we use daily. The Chinese coins were usually made out of base metals which had holes in them so that you could put the coins together to make a chain.
Silver	At about 500 B.C., pieces of silver were the earliest coins. Eventually in time they took the appearance of today and were imprinted with numerous gods and emperors to mark their value. These coins were first shown in Lydia, or Turkey, during this time, but the methods were used over and over again, and further improved upon by the Greek, Persian, Macedonian, and Roman empires. Not like Chinese coins, which relied on base metals, these new coins were composed from scarce metals such as bronze, gold, and silver, which had a lot of intrinsic value.
Leather Currency	In 118 B.C., banknotes in the form of leather money were used in China. One-foot square pieces of white deerskin edged in vivid colors were exchanged for goods. This is believed to be the beginning of a kind of paper money.
Noses	During the ninth century A.D., the Danes in Ireland had an expression "To pay through the nose." It comes from the practice of cutting the noses of those who were careless in paying the Danish poll tax.
Paper Currency	From the ninth century to the fifteenth century A.D., in China, the first actual paper currency was used as money. Through this period the amount of currency skyrocketed causing severe inflation. Unfortunately, in 1455 the use of the currency vanished from China. European civilization still would not have paper currency for many years.
Potlach	In 1500, North American Indians engaged in potlach, a term that describes the exchange of gifts at banquets, dances, and various rituals. Since the trading of gifts was so important in figuring the leaders’ community status, potlach went out of control as the gifts became more extravagant in an effort to surpass others' gifts.
Wampum	In 1535, though likely well before this earliest recorded date, strings of beads made from clam shells, called wampum, are used by North American Indians as money. Wampum means white, the color of the clam shells and the beads.
Gold Standard	In 1816, England made gold a benchmark of value. This meant that the value of currency was pegged to a certain number of ounces of gold. This would help to prevent inflation of currency. The U.S. went on the gold standard in 1900.
Depression	Because of the depression of the 1930's, the U.S. began a world wide movement to end tying currency to gold. Today, few nations tie the value of their currency to the price of gold. Other government and financial institutions now try to control inflation.
Today	At present, nations continue to change their currencies. For example, the U.S. has already changed its $100 and $20 banknotes. More changes are in the works.
Tomorrow	Tomorrow is already here. Electronic money (or digital cash) is already being exchanged over the Internet.

Three Strikes and the Dollar's Out

China is the largest holder of dollar denominated investments and reserves in the world. And they're losing money on it all. How much? Charles Dumas, chief economist and director at Lombard Street Research — economic consultants to some of the world's largest banks for nearly 20 years — sums it up...

"China makes 1-2 percent on its (largely) dollar reserves. It then loses up to 10 percent on the exchange rate and suffers a Chinese inflation of 6 percent for a total return in renminbi of about minus 15 percent. That is a loss of $270 billion a year, or a stunning 7-8 percent of gross domestic product."

The bottom line is, China is losing big on its dollar investments. And they're looking to get out of this losing trade. First by reducing reliance on the dollar.

Over the last six months, China has entered into currency swap agreements with several of Asian neighbors including Malaysia, South Korea, Hong Kong and Indonesia. Currency swap lines are essentially currency accounts with the others currency so they can trade with each other directly. Without having to swap for dollars first.

the dollar may be challenged by other currencies, most likely the Chinese renminbi. This would have serious costs for America...”

Ordinarily you might say "so what" to agreements like these between Asian nations. But now China has arranged swaps with Brazil and Argentina. Two commodity-rich, Latin American countries who are just as happy to take the dollar out of the trade loop as well.

Fact: China kicks dollars out of their
trade loop – STRIKE ONE.

But that's only the beginning.

China's down payment on the future

Since they're not using as many dollars for international trade, they're putting them to another use.

The Wall Street Journal reports... "Chinese government banks are willing to extend huge foreign loans to further China's long-term energy-security goals: ensuring diverse global supplies and winning entree into competitive regions for its oil companies."

This buys them a lot of good will and favorable trade terms from countries around the world.

They recently extended $10 billion in loans to Brazil's national oil company, Petrobras.

They've also injected more of their reserve dollars into other resource rich countries like Russia, Kazakhstan and regions of Africa. Lending money these countries wouldn't have access to otherwise, but also buying goodwill of some of the most resource rich countries in the world.

Fact: China is investing their dollar reserves outside the U.S. to ensure their future economic security. STRIKE TWO.

What's bad for the dollar can be VERY good for you!

China turning its back on the dollar carries big, bad implications for dollar holders everywhere – including you...

Being the world's reserve currency is a big deal. It means the U.S. can buy commodities like food and oil cheaper than the rest of the world, because we don't have to buy another currency first. It also means that we can borrow money to fund our deficits cheaper because other countries who hold large stores of dollars will lend them back to us (by buying our treasury bonds) more readily.

Without that edge, it would lead to skyrocketing prices everywhere, from the supermarket to the gas pump. On top of that, we'd see soaring interest rates – including the all the rates that affect you... From your mortgage to your credit cards...

Three strikes and it's time to arm yourself against the long term fallout of their actions

Finally there are “experts” who claim the Chinese would never do anything to hurt the dollar. They say the Chinese simply have too much exposure to dollar based investments. It would be like committing financial suicide.

But here's the truth. China controls nearly $700 billion in U.S. debt. And they certainly want to appear as if they're still willing to support U.S. debt. But in reality, they've been quietly adjusting their holdings to shorter terms underlining their loss of faith in the U.S. In fact, Reuters reported China...

“...has turned its back on long-term U.S. debt in favor of shorter maturities. Between August 2008 and March 2009, China bought $171.3 billion of bills, debt that carries a maturity of up to a year, compared with just $22.9 billion of longer-term notes and bonds with a maturity of two years or more. It also sold $23.5 billion of long-term agency debt.”

Now this isn't happening by accident. And the shift isn't going to play out in one day. It's a complex undertaking – like a game of chess. When you play chess, you try to maneuver your opponent into the most defensive position possible taking his pieces one by one.

That is exactly what China is doing. And when they're finished...

Fact: China won't care what happens to the US dollar. STRIKE THREE.

As many of you know, the foreign currency market is my domain. I’ve been a professional Forex trader and instructor for years, so everything I do in the financial markets revolves around foreign currencies in some way.

But the truth is even if I quit Forex trading cold turkey tomorrow and never placed another Forex trade again, I would still pay attention to the currency markets. And it’s not because I happen to love currencies.

It’s because just watching the foreign currency markets boosts my stock returns.

Not many retail investors know this, but studying the foreign currency market is one of the easiest ways to gain an edge in your stock investing.

By tracking which currencies are appreciating and depreciating around the world, you can tell exactly where global capital is flowing. When a currency is going up, it’s because money is flowing into it. When a currency is going down, it’s because money is leaving it.

When money is leaving it, all you have to do is look to see where global capital seems to be heading and you can bet that country’s stock market is about to profit.

Let me give you a visual below and you’ll see what I mean.

Money Travels from the U.S. to the Land Down Under

As you’ll see from the visual above, money is currently leaving the U.S. and other countries too, like Japan. Right now, that cash seems to be headed down under to Australia if you look at the appreciation in the Aussie dollar’s price.

I can also verify this by looking to the AUD/USD pair. As it goes up, money is leaving the U.S. and heading to Australia.

You see, the currency is the “door” or entrance into a country. Before you invest in a country’s stocks, bonds, real estate, etc. you have to FIRST convert your investment funds into “their money”.

Want to see another great visual? Here’s a chart that shows Australian stocks vs. U.S. stocks. When the red line climbs, it means Aussie stocks are gaining the upper hand over U.S. stocks. When it goes down, the U.S. stocks are gaining ground on the Aussie stocks. Also, there is a line chart that shows the AUD/USD currency pair too. Check it all out below.

The Aussie Dollar Closely Tracks Aussie Stocks

Australia’s stocks have been gaining on U.S. stocks ever since last February to March. Notice the Aussie dollar started rising vs. the U.S. dollar (line chart)…around the same time!

Don’t Know Enough about Foreign Countries to Buy? Watch Currencies

Even if you didn’t know anything about Australia’s fundamentals, you could look at the major currency pairs to see where the money was flowing and pinpoint Australia. That would tell you where you'd find the biggest edge and overall technical strength.

The savvy currency trader, of course, knows that Australia has a positive GDP, while the U.S. doesn’t. Currency traders also know that Australia actually has some inflation while the U.S. still has deflation.

They know that Australia has a lower unemployment rate than the U.S. does. They know that China is recovering and buying many of its goods from Australia and not the U.S. So that’s why the AUD/USD is going up over time.

However, even if a stock investor didn’t know anything about the foreign market, they could still tell money is flowing into that country (Australia) more than the U.S. just by looking at the AUD/USD currency pair’s price. Therefore the stock investor would know that the Aussie stock market is about to get a boost from these global capital flows.

In fact, the U.S. stock investor will likely make gains in two ways: through the Aussie stock appreciation AND on the gains from the Aussie dollar. You would make extra money on the currency appreciation when you convert their Aussie profits back into U.S. dollars.

Bottom line: Whether you’re into bonds, stocks, currencies, real estate investments, etc. the currency market tips you off to where the money is flowing. The currency market is the “gate” that it has to go through before going into ANY of these other investments... and it’s the ultimate cheat sheet when you want to see where money is flowing next.

No Trading During NEWS Hour

I have been thinking about news trading for quite sometime now…While this rule is not something new in the forex trading realm, I believe it should also be adhere too by robot or automatic traders.

On my previous posts on Slap Me Silly Please… John123x mentioned not to trade during high impact news. This is not exactly new advice, but neither was it an old advice.

I have been thinking about not trading the news for quite sometime now before my bit(h slapping by Cyborg.

My thoughts on this only after after the day I got whacked on S26 with volatility… The EA developer told me not to trade the EA during CHF news hour especially when SNB release this news…

As you can see, this particular spike up and down on the 18 June 2009 was when SNB release their news

blinkHas anyone read this book, ‘blink’ by Malcolm Gladwell? It’s a great book. I just finished it.

It has nothing to do with trading. However, it has a lot to do with snap judgement and gives a more and deeper understanding on how our mind work in terms of making snap judgement or unconsious decision.

I don’t know about you. But somehow or rather, it makes me understand why veteran traders would outlast new traders.

They say trading is an art. This art is the ability to make decisions in the market under sheer stress and pressure. With so much noise and information like charts, news, trend lines, volume indicator, fan indicator, dog indicator, cat indicator, glaring at you on the screen, how one profits from the market is how one makes a decision to go in and out of to the market without second thoughts.

Well, there are a lot of thoughts that I have and points that I can associate this book with trading, but I shall leave you with one particular thought of mine.

You can not take the art out of trading by automatic trading. However, you can put the art of trading into automatic trading.

Many claim to have the best Expert Advisors out there, but results will vary!

There are many factors that determine how effective an EA is. A very slight difference in a dealer's quote price can mean the difference between big profits and hitting the stop loss.

Do Some Testing

It is extremely important to throughly test an EA before you give them too much freedom with your cash. They can run great for weeks, but suddenly start to lose money, often at alarming rates, with a slight change in market conditions.

Demo account testing is good, but don't forget that dealer demo and live platforms often have very different quote prices.

Bloody brilliant!

Now my review of Piptronic

After two month's of ruthless testing on this one, it's results gave me no choice but to rate it as my number #3 recommended expert advisor. It out performed everything I had in my arsenal except PipTurbo and Forex Grinder.

It features a similar trend adapting technology and market timing algorithm as Pipzu. On top of that, it includes a money management system, as well as a very interesting N0S setting. This N0S setting is displayed on their results page here which shows the difference in reports with the setting turned on, and turned off. Quite amazing I might say.

With all these fancy features, it's no wonder Piptronic offers some of the lowest drawdowns and highest winning percentage I have seen over a long period of time. Jon has really pushed the envelope with this one, bringing a whole new meaning to next generation expert advisors.

Piptronic earns my third highest seal of recommendation.

You may come across some bad reviews about Piptronic, but those are from either competitors sabotaging the name, or from people that had bad experiences with the older 1.0 version. The new 2.0 version has fixed all issues and is performing amazingly well. Most have given up on it, but those who stuck with it are reaping the benefits!

Wow!! Lots of hype surrounding this one, and deservingly so. Before it was even released I was getting a ton of questions about it. Well, I was fortunate to get a review copy, and was anxious to test this bad boy out. A big claim in saying that it will double your account each and every month...

Ok so for my tests. I test on the EURUSD, GBPCHF, and EURCHF. I first started FAP Turbo on a $5,000 demo account. After the first two weeks of trading, with an average of 3-5 trades per day(less on fridays which is a good thing) the demo account was well on it's way to being doubled up 57% to 7850. 26 total trades, just 5 losses. Ok I was satisfied and was willing to go live with it.

I opened an account at fxopen because of their low spreads back in the beginning of November. Well by the end of november, my $1,000 initial capital got up to $1890.34. So not quite doubled, but come on, pretty close!

I am very satisfied with both the performance and support of FAP Turbo.

Would I buy it over Forex Grinder if I had the choice? Most likely not. Would I buy it over Piptronic? It's a toss up. Would I buy all three? You bet your ass I would!

What is an Expert Advisor ?

A Forex Expert Advisor (a.k.a. Forex Trading Robot, EA, MT-4 EA, Automated Forex Trading Software) is a mechanical trading system written in the MQL-4 programming language and designed to automate trading activities on the MetaTrader 4 platform. Expert Advisors can be programmed to alert you of a trading opportunity and can also trade your account automatically managing all aspects of trading operations from sending orders directly to your broker’s server to automatically adjusting stop loss, trailing stops and take profit levels.

Expert Advisors for MetaTrader 4 are all unique and different in the rules they follow to enter and exit the market. Expert Advisors eliminate emotional trading decisions that cripple novice trading accounts. Forex Expert Advisors allow investors to exercise a very strict trading system without falling outside pre-programmed parameters and it is this rock solid consistency one of the features that make these programs so attractive to serious investors. Am Expert Advisors can also eliminate the emotional trading decisions that usually cripple novice Forex trading accounts. Forex Expert Advisors exercise unmatched discipline when trading and can be designed to evaluate more parameters at the same time than any human could keep an eye on at once.

All of the technical indicators that are available in the MT-4 platform can be brought to bear in the logic used by an Expert Advisor in almost any way that one can think of thanks to the MQL-4 programming language. All types of moving averages (simple, exponential, etc.), RSI, CCI, etc. You can also create your own custom indicator and call upon it from an Expert Advisor.

There are many different types of MT-4 Expert Advisors depending on their intended application. Some are designed specifically to trade news events and remain out of the market all other times while other MT-4 Expert Advisors are meant to remain active 24x7. Experienced traders who have their own fine tuned manual trading systems sometimes hire MQL-4 programmers to automate their systems thereby creating custom MT-4 Expert Advisors. All expert advisors have the same goal and that is to automate trading operations and generate a profit while doing so.

How does a Forex Expert Advisor work ?

The program works by calculating the different indicators that it was designed to use and take actions when the market conditions meet the correct criteria as described in the source code of the Expert Advisor.

Fore Example. A simple expert advisor may say something like this:

"If the 9 and 20 day moving averages cross with the 9 day MA above the 20 MA and the RSI is higher than 50 then open a long position (buy)"

That is just an example. You can assign countless conditions for entering and exiting the market as well as managing trades for trailing stops and multiple take profit levels.

An MT-4 Expert Advisor is usually divided into three parts: A startup or ‘init’ function, a main function and a ‘deinit’ or cleanup function. The Expert Advisor will run through its startup function once upon startup and will run through its ‘deinit’ or clean-up function once at the end. In the mean time, the MT-4 Expert Advisor program runs through a cycle of its main function over and over with every incoming tick while it is attached to a chart and active. Once running, the Expert Advisor will not start another cycle for a new tick if it is still in the middle of processing the previous one.

Here is a simple outline of what a simple expert advisor could be programmed to do.

(This would be the 'main' part of the EA and takes place every time a tick comes in.)

1- Check my account. Is there enough equity to open a trade? if so, continue. If not, end.

2- Are there any open trades right now?

2a- If there are, do they need to be closed or do they need their trailing stop adjusted? (do so if needed and exit.)

2b- If there are no open trades, are the market conditions right to open one? (do so if needed and exit. )

3- End.

How to use an Expert Advisor

In order to make use of an Expert Advisor you have to install it on MetaTrader and then attach it to the appropriate chart on MetaTrader 4. This is fairly simple as will be described below. If there are any instructions included with your Expert Advisor you should read them in their entirety.

#1- First, you have to put the Expert Advisor in a place where MetaTrader 4 will be able to use it. In most installations of MetaTrader 4 that place is C:\Program Files\MetaTrader 4\experts The actual Expert Advisor is a file without an icon that ends with .EX4

#2- Now that the Expert Advisor is in the correct location within your computer, re-start MetaTrader 4.

#3- When MetaTrader 4 starts up again you will now see the new Expert Advisor on the left navigation menu.

Can I run more than one Expert Advisor on the same

account/client terminal ?

Yes. You can run multiple instances of an Expert Advisor on the same MetaTrader 4 client terminal. As long as all of the Expert Advisors that you are running in the same client terminal have been designed to get along with each other on the same terminal. (not all Expert Advisors can get along on the same terminal) Mainly because they will try to manage each other’s open trades. Programmers get around this by using magic numbers in the market entrance part of the source code of the Expert Advisor.

There are also platform limitations. Only one Expert Advisor can communicate with the trading server at any one time. If multiple Expert Advisors are active on the same terminal and more than one try to communicate with the trading server you will get "Trade context busy" errors in the logs when this happens if you have too many Expert Advisors on one client terminal.

USD Holds Steady on Data by Korman Tam

The greenback recovered from earlier session lows against the majors at the start of Tuesday trading, pushing the euro off from above the 1.40-level to 1.3940 and the pound beneath the 1.63-figure.

US economic reports released earlier in the session were mixed, with both retail sales and producer prices higher than expected for June. The headline retail sales figure edged up by 0.6% and beating estimates for a decline to 0.4% from 0.5% in May. The excluding autos reading missed forecasts for an unchanged number at 0.5%, instead declining to 0.3%. The June producer price index was sharply higher than expected, posting a monthly increase of 1.8%, compared with consensus estimates for an increase to 0.9% from 0.2% and lower by 4.6% on an annualized basis versus a 5.0% decline previously. The core PPI figures revealed a monthly increase of 0.5%, versus a 0.1% decline a month earlier and a 3.3% jump on an annualized basis compared with 3.0% a year prior.

Although the highly anticipated earnings report from Goldman Sachs beat consensus estimates, the equity market had largely priced in strong earnings and drifted into negative territory at the open. The Dow Jones, Nasdaq and the S&P 500 were lower by nearly 0.4%. Declining equities pushed the dollar off its session lows, recovering from the 1.40-level to 1.3950 against the euro. Crude oil continued to hover near the $60 per barrel level.

Michael Jackson Dies

We've just learned Michael Jackson has died. He was 50.

Michael suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this afternoon at his Holmby Hills home and paramedics were unable to revive him. We're told when paramedics arrived Jackson had no pulse and they never got a pulse back.

A source tells us Jackson was dead when paramedics arrived. A cardiologist at UCLA tells TMZ Jackson died of cardiac arrest.

Once at the hospital, the staff tried to resuscitate him but he was completely unresponsive.

A source inside the hospital told us there was "absolute chaos" after Jackson arrived. People who were with the singer were screaming, "You've got to save him! You've got to save him!"

We're told one of the staff members at Jackson's home called 911.

La Toya ran in the hospital sobbing after Jackson was pronounced dead.

Michael is survived by three children: Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince "Blanket" Michael Jackson II.

Telahpun dibincangkan bagaimana seorang yang Arif begitu takut sekali pada sesuatu nikmat yang mensukacitakan; dan telahpun diketahui kini bahawa ketakutan mereka sebenarnya adalah kerana dalam sukacita itu amat mudah bagi nafsu mengambil bahagiannya. Sekali masuk dalam bahagian nafsu, bahananya ialah tersingkirnya mereka daripada berhadapan di Majlis Ketuhanan. Ini adalah kerana Hadrat Qudsiyah itu adalah tempat yang suci dan bersih. Tidak akan berada di tempat ini melainkan mereka yang benar-benar suci. Suci daripada menilik bahagian wujud dirinya dan bersih daripada bahagian kesukaan nafsu; suci dan bersih daripada sebarang persyirikan dan kelalaian. Orang yang lalai ialah mereka yang ada janabah di mana janabah itu adalah merupakan satu manik yang mencegah daripada mendirikan ibadat. Sama sekali tidak akan diizinkan masuk ke Hadirat ini mereka yang tidak bersih dari junub kelalaian.

Kalam hikmah di atas, mengesahkan dan mentahqiqkan lagi kefahaman yang benar itu bahawa Bermula sukacita itu mengambil nafsu akan bahagiannya dengan diperoleh kesukaannya . Maksudnya dalam setiap sesuatu yang menjadikan diri kita senang, jinak dengan rasa gembira dan sukacita, maka di situ dengan nyatanya sekali menampakkan akan wujudnya nafsu dalam mengambil bahagiannya. Nafsu memang sifatnya cenderung dalam mengambil bahagian dalam kesukaannya. Di mana ada kesukaan, di situlah adanya bahagian-bahagian nafsu. Apa sahaja, asalkan sesuatu yang dikatakan sebagai sesuatu yang menyukakan dan suka pula agar ianya menjadi tetap, maka di situ adanya nafsu yang mengambil bahagian-bahagiannya.

Suka dengan kenaikan gaji dan pangkat;
Suka kerana menerima sesuatu pemberian daripada manusia atau makhluk Allah;
Suka dengan kehadiran warid hasil dari teguhnya wirid-wirid yang diistiqamahkan selama ini;
Suka dengan terbukanya sesuatu keajaiban di alam-alam tinggi;
Suka dalam mendapat laduni yang dilimpahkan dihatinya;
Suka dengan hal dan maqam-maqam yang sedang diduduki kini
Suka dengan dapatan itu, dapatan ini.
